What Customers Are Saying About Fairy Tale Tarot

Lisa Hunt! She is such a gifted artist. Each card is so beautifully illustrated with so much detail. The illustrations make for such a rich reading. This is great for tarot and fairy tale lovers. There is a different fairy tale for every card from all around the world. This deck is truly a work of art!

A beautiful fun deck that takes you on a journey through different fairy tales around the world, depending on where you grew up, some may be very familiar, and others may not be as familiar, each card will bring you back to nostalgic memories from childhood or help you to discover new ones as the guidebook provides what fairy tale story each card comes from as well as the culture and several keywords for each card. No matter what age, this deck will definitely take you on a wonderful adventure full of excitement and intrigue.

It has a very calming color palate of baby blues, greens, creams and other pastel colors. It has a dreamy quality to the images and the energy of the deck.

This deck includes well known fairy tales and “some obscure oral traditions.”
The creator Lisa Hunt shows us through the cards how our heroes and heroines can overcome obstacles that are put in their way by drawing on their resources, the lessons they learn on their journey, and the power they discover when tested.
Like for example, Little Red Riding Hood is our Fool, and she represents our unrealized self. The wolf she meets is the shadow initiating the awakening of the ego.
“It embodies our wild, untamed nature and the drives that are embedded in the psyche. Your adventurous spirit will help you cross into thresholds of new possibilities but be aware of tricksters that may cross your path along the way.”
In the guidebook, the story or fairy tale is identified, keywords are provided for us related to the traditional tarot card meanings, and a detailed description is given to show us how the fairy tale/story relates to the major and minor arcanas.

The news of a re-release of Lisa Hunt’s highly sought after Fairy Tale Tarot was met with much excitement in the tarot community. The deck was re-released in December 2024 by US Games, and I’m happy to report that it lives up to all expectations.

Those familiar with Lisa Hunt’s other work, such as the Pastoral Tarot, Ghosts & Spirits Tarot, Winged Enchantment Oracle, and Fantastical Creatures Tarot (among others) will immediately recognize her signature art style. The incredibly intricate detailing in Lisa’s art is astounding, especially to us non-artists. The illustrations begin with pencil sketches and are finished in watercolor. This is analog work at its finest, something that is increasingly rare in our digital age.

The guidebook is small, yet mighty. Each card description, Major and Minor, has a story and its cultural origin. Sharing both familiar and more obscure fairy tales, the author, “wanted to share tales from around the world, to demonstrate the universal power of [the] stories. She says that, “one mission of the fairy tale is to force us to confront [the] dark entities residing in our psyche.” These points are important: if you are perhaps reluctant to pick up this deck thinking that it would fall too young or too light, that would be an incorrect assumption. There is a great deal of depth (and some darkness) within these cards and tales.

The deck comes in a sturdy two-piece box. The cardstock is smooth, flexible, and snappy with a satin finish. It shuffles like a dream. I would characterize the deck structure as Rider-Waite-Smith leaning, but it is no clone. The deck provides new ways of looking at cards for the seasoned reader, and while it may not be the obvious choice for a beginner, the well-written guidebook has substantial enough detail for the beginner to get along just fine.
