The iconic drawings of Pamela Colman Smith have been beautifully re-colored by artist Mary Hanson-Roberts. The original meanings and rich symbolism of the Rider-Waite artwork come through with greater clarity and fresh, new details. The enhanced imagery make the Universal Waite Tarot deck more accessible to newcomers and more appealing to seasoned tarot readers. Hanson-Roberts’ serene colors also make the Universal Waite deck as perfect for meditation as it is for divination.

This deck/book set includes a 78-card Universal Waite Tarot deck, the Pictorial Key to the Tarot by Arthur Edward Waite, and a tarot spread sheet with designated spaces for the 10-card Celtic Cross Spread.

Book contents include: The Veil and its Symbols; The Doctrine Behind the Veil; The Outer Method of the Oracles, The Greater Arcana and their Divinatory Meanings, and The Art of Tarot Divination.

Others decks with artwork by Mary Hanson-Roberts include: Hanson-Roberts Tarot and Whimsical Tarot (now out of print).

What Customers Are Saying About Universal Waite® Tarot Deck/Book Set

I finally broke down and decided to get a more traditional deck, simply because the Rider Waite tarot is so well known for the depth of traditional spiritual symbolism contained in it's images. But the more common Rider Waite decks never attracted me, because the artwork is substandard. This deck includes new paintings that are vibrant and far more attractive, but keep completely intact the original images' symbolism. You will love this deck.

Being a beginner/novice, I am pleased that I picked this traditional set for its reviews and design. Having the additional book with them was also helpful as is the little leaflet that you get anyway.

“The start of the book is about the history of tarot cards, which is quite nice in depth for being one chapter long, and the book has a bibliography in the back for further reading, and also in the end of the book are some pages for alternate card meanings and spreads. I think the book is a good addition to the deck and handy spread mat.”
