Pirates and mermaids, oh my! I am so happy with this new edition of the deck! How wonderful that it’s just slightly larger than standard which gives it a lovely presentation. The cards are bendy and smooth and easy to rifle or overhand. I love the inclusion of the artistic inspiration in the guidebook. It truly helps to bring the theme to life. The new box style is beautifully designed and nice and sturdy! I love the murky color chosen for the inside of the box as well. My NEW favorite tarot deck! I have had an unhealthy obsession with mermaids and sirens recently, and was on a hunt to find the best deck depiction with inclusion to sailors, pirates, and the nautical theme. I found this deck before it was released to the public and waited a full month in excited anticipation for its arrival. It is HERE, finally, and beyond what I imagined! This deck is stunning, beautiful, and honestly, just super fun. I love the coloring, the unique telling of the Fool's journey through these cards, and the new additions like how the Page cards are all gorgeous, curious mermaids ready to build upon their intelligence in each suit, and the Kraken making his appearance in The Devil AND The Tower. Themed decks can be hit or miss when it comes to maintaining the creative intention while keeping the symbolic elements meaningful. In the case of Maisy Bristol’s Tempest Tarot, it has skillfully navigated past all the treacherous waters to berth itself on my tarot shelf. I am fully enjoying this deck with its nautical theme (see what I was doing there ;)) and gorgeous artwork depicting everything from mermaids and pirates to treasure trips through Kraken-infested waters. This deck is a must-have for anyone that loves the mystical sea and will provide great inspiration when used in readings. Some of my personal favorite cards in this deck are: 8 of Swords, depicting a skull ensconced by an octopus’s tentacles pierced by eight blades; 2 of Swords with its crossed scimitars behind a grinning skull evoking the Jolly Roger; and Justice with its compass bearing the scales balancing the Sun and the Moon. Usually Swords are not a favorite suit, but in this deck I really enjoy their connection to the broader theme.
